Plane skids off runway at LaGuardia, crashes through fence
NEW YORK - Officials say six people aboard a plane from Atlanta that skidded off a runway at LaGuardia Airport while landing have injuries that aren't life threatening.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Joe Pentangelo said Thursday that a preliminary count showed six people were injured. The Port Authority runs the airport.
The plane crashed through a chain-link fence and sent passengers saddled with bags and bundled up in heavy coats and scarves sliding down an inflated chute to safety on the snowy pavement. Delta Flight 1086 was carrying 125 passengers and five crew members.
Images show the plane resting in several inches of snow.
