NAPOLEONVILLE - A 35-year-old Pierre Part man has been sentenced to life in prison for beating his mother to death in 2008.
The Advocate reports that state District Judge Jane Triche-Milazzo sentenced Charles Gaspard on Tuesday.
An Assumption Parish jury found Gaspard guilty of second-degree murder on Aug. 6 in the slaying of his mother, Beatrice Ackman Gaspard.
Gaspard was accused of beating his mother on Sept. 1, 2008, after he was awakened from a nap as Hurricane Gustav moved across the parish.
She died on Sept. 5 after being taken off life support.
Prosecutors said an autopsy found the cause of death was a subdural hematoma due to blunt force trauma.
