Permanent La. Sports Hall opens, with Shaq
NATCHITOCHES - For a half-century, the Louisiana Sports Writers Association has been collecting the names of - and memorabilia from - the state's greatest athletes.
As of this weekend, they finally have a place to put it all.
The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is opening this weekend in Natchitoches, coinciding with this year's induction ceremonies on Saturday night.
It is housed in a $23 million, 27,500-square-foot building which is also home to the Northwest Louisiana History Museum.
The 2013 class includes basketball players Shaquille O'Neal, Ervin Johnson and James Jones; tennis players Chanda Rubin and Anna Koll; football players Tommy Hodson and Kevin Mawae; jockey Ronald Ardoin and longtime Newman School basketball coach Ed "Skeets" Tuohy.
