BATON ROUGE - A public meeting is set for next week to discuss further widening improvements to Perkins road in Baton Rouge.

Much of the road has been widened over the last ten years with one main stretch left to do.

The last work to be done was from Bluebonnet to Siegen, but it stopped there. This latest plan would go from Siegen Lane all the way down to Highland Road.

The project has been in the works for nearly a decade. Currently, it's a two-lane street; the proposed widening would open the road up to four lanes, with a median in the middle. People who live nearby say this stretch sees heavy back ups during rush hour and think the widening is past due.

Some businesses however aren't on board with the plan. They agree the road should be widened but don't like how they're going about it.

"Just doesn't make any sense," said Rick Bucy, Casual Creations owner. "You're going to have all the bump outs and turn-arounds. It seems like it's an extra expense that's just going to cause problems that nobody wants."

Area residents will be able to voice their opinion at the open house meeting, Wednesday, Dec. 17.
