People denounce plans for new landfill
BATON ROUGE- People had a stern message for state environmental leaders who will make the final decision about a landfill in the northern area of the parish.
A small crowd gathered Monday night for a meeting about the facility planned for Brooklawn Drive, about two miles west of Scenic Highway and near the parish public landfill. Most opposed the project.
"We don't have the dollars, but we have the voice and we have the heart to say enough is enough and we don't need another landfill," Kathryn Jones said.
"We don't need it; we don't want it," another person said.
Louisiana Land Acquisition is behind the push for the disposal facility. It's the company's third attempt to get a permit for the location.
The Metro Council opposed previous applications by the company, raising concerns about the safety of the project.
