People buying Powerball tickets by the droves
BATON ROUGE - The big Powerball jackpot reached $500 million Wednesday, bringing people out in droves to buy tickets before the drawing.
People all over the city have been swarming gas stations and stores to purchase their combination of numbers, hoping to win the big prize.
"I've never played the lottery before but I'm trying my luck with this one here. Since it's up to $500 million... I hope I hit it," said D'Laniger Brown.
One lucky couple from Mississippi already hit it big. Thomas and Debbie James were in Baton Rouge Wednesday to collect a $1,000,000 dollar prize from Saturday's Powerball.
"Actually I retired at the end of last year. This comes at a perfect time. This is going to be our retirement fund," Thomas said.
The couple said they're not going to take it easy, though.
"We're going to stop on the way home and buy tickets... in Hammond," Thomas said.
The big drawing will happen Wednesday at 9:59 p.m. ET. Watch News 2 at 10 for the latest developments.
