PONCHATOULA - State police say a 20-year-old Ponchatoula man has died after being hit by a pickup while walking on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Trooper Greg Marchand says Lavarius Grisby was pronounced dead by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office after the accident that occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday

Marchand say Grisby was with other pedestrians who were walking against the flow of traffic in the left, southbound lane.

He says Grisby, who was wearing dark clothing, walked into the lane of traffic and was struck by pickup driven by 42-year-old Michael K. Green, of Avondale.

The crash remains under investigation.
