GEISMAR- Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Ascension Parish.

The accident occurred on La. Highway 30 shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Troopers say the pedestrian, 42-year-old Mark Mata of Corpus Christi, Texas, was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a car. He was pronounced died at the scene. They say Mata was wearing dark clothing.

The driver of the car was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
