JEFFERSON PARISH- Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash the left one woman dead on Behrman Highway.

The crash took place shortly before 10 p.m. on LA 428 near Nova Street. Authorities say the crash claimed the life of 37-year-old Sonia Ruiz-Martinez.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Martinez was attempted to cross LA 428 from east to west. While she was crossing the northbound left lane, Martinez was struck by a 2008 Mazda 6 driven by 58-year-old Tara Hahnebohm.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors on the part of Hahnebohm, who provided a breath sample, according to authorities. No alcohol was found.

Toxicology tests will be performed on Martinez following an autopsy. Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
