Pedestrian hit by truck dies from injuries
BATON ROUGE - An 18-year-old pedestrian who was hit by a pickup truck when he attempted to cross Siegen Lane on early Friday morning has died from his injuries.
Daniel Rivas of Baton Rouge was crossing Siegen Lane near Industriplex Blvd. at around 2:30 a.m. on July 4 when he was hit by a pickup truck, driven northbound on Siegen Lane by 23-year-old Stephen Wagley of Baton Rouge.
Wagley was unable to avoid Rivas as he was walking in the roadway and hit him with the truck.
Rivas suffered serious injuries from the crash and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, but died from his injuries on July 5.
The driver of the truck was not suspected to be impaired, and he was not cited in the crash.
It is unknown whether the pedestrian was impaired at the time of the accident, and law enforcement pointed out that he was wearing dark clothing at the time of the wreck.
Louisiana State Police reminded pedestrians to wear light-colored or reflective clothing when walking near roadways at night, only cross streets at designated intersections and to avoid walking in dark areas.
