Pedestrian critically injured in Walker
WALKER - Police released the name of a Covington man they said was critically injured when he tried to cross I-12 near Walker Tuesday morning.
Walker Police said Chad Wayne Cox, 27, was narrowly missed by an 18-wheeler before he was hit by an SUV around 3:30 a.m. The wreck closed I-12 East at the Satsuma exit for a time as police conducted their investigation.
Investigators said it appears the crash wasn't the fault of the drivers.
"There are no indications that speed, driver inattentiveness or driver impairment were factors in the accident," said Walker Police Captain John Sharp. "Given the circumstances, including the weather conditions and poor lighting, it appears the accident was unavoidable."
Sharp said Cox was still in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, and they were testing a blood sample for any signs of impairment.
