Payton stresses 'urgency' for Saints to improve
NEW ORLEANS - Sean Payton dismisses the notion that his return to coaching means the New Orleans Saints will instantly regain their playoff form of 2011.
Payton says the team that stumbled to a 7-9 record last season - with one of the worst defenses in NFL history - is the one he's taken over following his one-season bounty ban.
For Payton, that means there's a lot of work ahead if the Saints want to contend for the playoffs in 2013 - not that he's discounting New Orleans' potential to do just that.
Payton says he's not putting any limitations on what he thinks the 2013 Saints can do.
After all, he still has quarterback Drew Brees, who eclipsed 5,000 yards passing last season for the third time in his career.
