Payton: Saints fortunate to be 2-0 despite errors
METAIRIE - Sean Payton can't complain about the Saints' 2-0 record. That doesn't mean he hasn't isolated some shortcomings with his normally prolific offense, and even his own play calling.
As the Saints prepare to host Arizona this Sunday, Payton says there's a lot the Saints have "to look at and clean up." He says his team is fortunate to be making such corrections after a last-second, 16-14 victory at Tampa Bay.
Payton says he blames himself for the failure to convert a first-and-goal from the 1 into points. He says he's also "mindful" of the number of hits the Bucs put on quarterback Drew Brees, including four sacks.
Still, Payton says he was pleased by New Orleans' defense and tight end Jimmy Graham's franchise-record 179 yards receiving.
