Today, Pat Shingleton kicks off the 21st year of Pat's Coats for Kids. Over the years, Pat Shingleton and WBRZ have given away over 172,000 coats, warming hearts across eleven parishes. This year Pat's Coats for Kids needs your help, to give every child in our community warmth this winter.
The need is great again this year, and with your support, Pat's Coats for Kids can meet that need. Please bring gently used coats to the locations listed below, mail checks or money orders to 1650 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70802, or donate by credit card on our Pat's Coats for Kids home page, under the "Features" and "Community Projects" section of wbrz.com.
Pat’s Coats for Kids is able to purchase high quality coats at a substantial discount – approximately $20 per coat – so please encourage friends, family and co-workers to contribute what they can. Remember, 100% of your donations are used to purchase new coats. Together, we can give these children something many of them have never had before – a new coat of their very own.
WBRZ will host Pack the POD on November 19, 2009, at the Wal-Mart on College Drive. Pack the POD is a one-day community donation drive, where we attempt to pack portable-on-demand storage units with new coats, used coats, and monetary donations. WBRZ will broadcast live from Pack the POD throughout the day on WBRZ’s 2une In, Noon, 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm newscasts. Schools, churches and businesses holding internal coat drives are invited to bring their donations to Pack the POD. The public is also encouraged to attend.
If your child is in need of a coat, please contact his or her school counselor. Coat requests are submitted to Pat's Coats for Kids by schools in the following parishes: Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana. Coats will be distributed by school counselors on December 11.
WBRZ would like to thank our sponsors, Neighbor's Federal Credit Union, Coldwell Banker One and PODS, as well as the YMCA of the Capitol Area, The Boy Scouts of America Istrouma Area Council and St. Vincent de Paul, for their help to make Pat’s Coats for Kids a success year after year.
