Pat Shingleton: "Turning A New Leaf..."

I just returned from Baltimore, expecting changes in their Fall foliage. New England is second to none and attracts a vast amount of leaf peepers. Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts are the top states for changing leaves. Rhode Island, the smallest, measures about 30 miles across with Connecticut the third smallest. Balanced preciptation and consistent seasonal temperature variations support agriculture and industry and year-long precipitation and melting snows allow for plentiful vegetative growth. In addition to luxurious fall foliage, harvest-time includes their cranberry crop and apple harvest, ranking high in the nation's cash receipts per acre. The peak period for leaf changing displays could be extended into early November.
