Pat Shingleton: "The Season - A Bust"
The Klotzbach-Gray Team from Colorado State University began seasonal hurricane predictions many years ago. Each year they initiate a forecast for Tropical Storms, Hurricanes and Major Hurricanes. Within the past few years many meteorologists have questioned the need for predicting the number of named storms whereby just one storm can have catastrophic impacts in damage and lives lost. On November 19th they noted that the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season was much quieter than predicted in seasonal outlooks. Thirteen observed storms occurred this season with 18 predictions that included 2 hurricanes and no major hurricanes. With multiple models, the team noted evidence of an expected active season found this year's predictions were a bust.
