Pat Shingleton; "The Dixie Alley..."
Our Monday afternoon briefing included our weekend meteorologist Robert Gauthreaux's assessment of storm damage. Here is his report. "Dixie Alley has increased in tornado outbreaks and includes Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and northern Louisiana. Yazoo City, MS was ravaged again Monday, possibly matching an EF-4 tornado that occurred in 2010. Additional tornadoes have been recorded in the last four years. Iowa Environmental Mesonet reports that Yazoo County is under a tornado warning more than 240 minutes per year on average. Dixie Alley has become home for long-track tornadoes that stay on the ground longer and travel further. The lack of basements, more population density, and lesser-grade construction has increased fatalities."
