Pat Shingleton: "One, Outweighs the Predictions"
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration began their Hurricane Awareness Tour on Wednesday. The first stop was Lakefront Airport in New Orleans with additional stops in Tallahassee and Tampa. This tour provides the media an opportunity to interview noted representatives and gain access to new technology in preparation for hurricane season. I had the pleasure of visiting with Dr. Rick Knabb, Director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami. NOAA posted their storm predictions for this season as did the Klotzbach-Grey team of Colorado State University. Storm predictions are based on climatological data, atmospheric stability and El Nino episodes. Rick concurred that just one storm is of greater importance than these predictions.
