Pat Shingleton: "Jet Streaming-Sideways"
Years ago, our old friend, Boots Garland, personal agent to Pat Flanagan, would mention that the National Pastime is not baseball but "blame placement." It appears that the Jet Stream is to blame. Historic flooding in Alberta, record heat in Alaska, the path of Hurricane Sandy, and May snowstorms in the Midwest are being linked to the buckling of the jetstream. The "jet" is a river of air that normally tracks west to east in a generally straight direction however recent undulations north and south have been detected. Some scientists relate the shift to climate change while others believe the relatively new investigations could be random weather or long-term cycles at work. Evidence of this unusual pattern could lead to other discoveries.
