Pat Shingleton: "Hotter than (the "H" word)...
In 2010,Advocate reporter Chante Dionne Warren analyzed a very hot August noting that Kentucky Fried Chicken attempted to locate the "Hotter than Hell" city and found it. As noted in a previous column Hell, Micigan is about an hour from Detroit. The city boasts an ice cream shop that offers ice cream sundaes that are set in coffins,a "Run through Hell" race, the Dam Site Inn and a post office. Further attention to the town includes capitalizing on the reference to related expressions:"Hot as Hell" and "Cold as Hell." Town leaders hold their late-August summer festival entitled the "666 Celebration" and a winter extravaganza. Weathercasters from Detroit, Flint and Grand Rapids often state, "It's a cold day in Hell...Michigan."
