Christmas morning found five kids, a grandfather and parents rushing into a living room that for 20 days was locked and curtained to add to the excitement. "Turns" were taken in opening gifts so others could see them and then it was breakfast time. In addition to juice, eggs and Dad's homemade sausage, Mom's "sticky bunds" were a tradition. If we didn't attend Midnight Mass, 9:15 Mass at St. Agatha's Church was next on the schedule. Family and friends randomly visited throughout the day but Christmas Night found the house jammed with guests. Every uncle brought a case of beer - either Iron City, Old Frothingslosh, Duke or Fort Pitt. It was kept cold in snow - piled outside the back door. Complications about the beer in tomorrow's column.
