BATON ROUGE- The Spirituality Board at Healing Place Church has decided Pastor Dino Rizzo will take a sabbatical from the church.

Rizzo was the lead pastor at the mega-church he founded in 1993 with his wife.

In a letter given to News 2 the church stated that Rizzo needs "rest for healing, reflection and restoration of spirit, soul and body."

In a statement, provided by the church, Rizzo said, "I have not felt myself, spiritually, physically or emotionally for several months now. My physically exhausted, spiritually depleted state has affected my decision making, my family and my ability to lead effectively."

After visiting Rizzo's home, his family told News 2 they expect him to return to his role at the church in few months, but the church says Rizzo's sabbatical has no time line.
