Passenger train derails killing 26 people
LUCKNOW, India - Police say the death toll has risen to 26 after three coaches of a passenger train derailed in northern India.
Police and rescue workers used gas cutters to rip apart the wreckage to find people who who were feared to be trapped.
Ram Murath Yadav, a police official at the site of the accident near Bachhrawan village in Uttar Pradesh state, said rescue workers had pulled out 26 bodies. Yadav said rescue efforts were focused on bringing trapped people out alive.
The cause of the derailment was not immediately known.
