ST. MARTINVILLE - Authorities reopened all boat traffic for a four-mile portion of waterways in the Atchafalaya Basin today.
The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries had closed the area in St. Martin Parish on May 26 due to flooding from the Morganza Spillway. It stretched from the Henderson levee on the west side to the Butte LaRose levee on the east side.
A press release said the elevated water in the area put the Entergy lines between those levees at a dangerous clearance level for boat traffic. With lower river levels, it's now safe for boats to pass under them.
