Parish president: No new roads until developer pays
GONZALES - Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez is presenting a new ordinance to council, asking them to say no to new parish roads unless the developer pays for it.
Martinez says it will leave the parish with the money to work on the roads they already have. He says he's ready to face critics that say his plan slows economic growth.
"I know it will deter businesses and it will basically stop some of our subdivisions that we will probably have in the future. I'm not looking forward to presenting this. But it's just something that we have to do."
Last year residents voted against a half-cent sales tax for road improvements.
