BATON ROUGE- It's a nightmare no parent wants to live: a call about violence at a popular hang-out, then no more communication.

Saturday, that fear came true for many parents; word quickly spread the Mall of Louisiana was being evacuated after a near riot.

Frantic parents looking for their kids silenced the hum of a police helicopter, the noise of police radios, and the chatter from thousands of people who spilled into the streets.

"I've been walking around, looking for her," said Shaune Wells. Wells' teenage daughter was at the mall, called to be picked-up after the chaos, and jammed cell phones kept the two apart once Wells arrived.

Another parent, Kevin Martin circled the mall looking for his son and attempting to get a call through.

Finally, one did.

When his son answered, Martin asked: "Hey man! Where you at?"

Martin's son was safe; he walked across the street when store managers started pushing people out.

Martin was frustrated with the situation, but left the events to a higher power.

"Try to leave it in the hands of the lord," he said as he drove to the location where his son suggested they meet.

Martin said he is annoyed that some people aren't respectful, and talked about the message he taught his kids: "just because they have to be a set of fools, don't mean you need to be one."

After nearly an hour, Martin found his son. They hugged, and drove home.

Deputies said Saturday night there were no reports of anyone missing.
