Parents pleased EBR board looking into security in schools
BATON ROUGE- Parents across the district tonight are rejoicing that the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is creating a task force to review school safety.
The board made the call at its committee meeting Wednesday night.
That's two days after a loaded gun was found on a student at Glasgow Middle School. Some parents there called for more security measures after the incident.
The board says it's taking this action to be proactive, instead of waiting for the worst to happen.
They'll be reviewing safety equipment and how frequently its used, along with emergency drill procedures and even bullying prevention programs.
Parents at Glasgow will be meeting next week with the district Security Director about changes at that specific school.
The board hopes to have the task force active in two weeks.
