Pair of elephants keep big rig from turning over
NATCHITOCHES - Sheriff's deputies got a helping hand Tuesday morning to keep a stranded 18-wheeler from flipping over in north Louisiana.
Correction: they got a helping trunk. Two, to be exact.
The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office said when deputies arrived on scene on I-49 near Powhatan they were "astounded" to find a pair of elephants helping keep the stranded big rig from turning over.
The sheriff's office said three elephants were on the truck and being transported from New Orleans to Dallas. The driver pulled over onto the shoulder of the interstate, which was soft enough it caused the truck to tip.
A wrecker was called out and deputies were sent to assist, while the elephants helped keep the truck stable. Deputies said there were three elephants on the truck in all, and two were unloaded to keep the truck upright. None of the elephants were injured.
The sheriff's office said no citations were issued. The elphants were being taken from Florida to join a circus in Texas.
