BATON ROUGE - Pat's Coats for Kids collected coats at Wal-mart this morning for its "Pack the Pods", a time for the community to stop by and drop off used coats.
Early this morning, the Louisiana State University Laboratory School formed an assembly line of coats to help pack the pod. It's a community effort that captures the attention of people both young and old.
"I'm giving coats to kids, and these coats are from my cousins," said Lillian Ruckman. "They didn't fit my sister or me, so we're just going to hand them down."
The coats will be distributed to 172 schools in 11 parishes around Baton Rouge on December 14. Each coat collected is sized and personally distributed to a child.
This is the 24th year for Pat's Coats for Kids.
