Owner of seized horses arrested
BATON ROUGE – The owner of several horses seized for being malnourished and emaciated has been arrested, according to Baton Rouge Police.
46-year-old Farrow Jerome Carney was arrested Tuesday evening after coming by the East Baton Rouge Animal Control Center, according to director Hilton Cole.
Cole said they had seized six of Carney’s horses earlier that day from property at 9908 Elm Gove Garden, after a complaint that the horses were emaciated and sickly. Animal control officers went back out and seized a seventh horse on Wednesday.
Carney was booked into the parish jail on six charges of simple cruelty to animals.
One of the younger horses died after it was taken from the property, and Cole said they would likely ask that the charges against Carney be upgraded after a necropsy had been performed. The other horses were improving after being checked by a vet and given access to food.
