BATON ROUGE - A 6,000-square-foot home was destroyed in an overnight fire, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said Sunday.

The home at 1055 Longwood in the Capital Heights area was being renovated.  Firefighters said when they arrived on the scene around 12:22 a.m., the fire was visible in the second floor.  The fire spread quickly, the department said.

It took two hours to get the fire under control and crews remained on the scene for almost five hours battling hot spots.

The fire is under investigation and a cause has not been determined but fire investigators do not suspect foul play, according to a news release.

The structure is a total loss, the department said, and estimated damages at $1 million.
