Over budget, behind schedule and maybe unsafe
BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA- The Governor of California admits he doesn't know if the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge will open over Labor Day weekend. Its the first time Jerry Brown acknowledged serious worries about the structural integrity of the project to build a new eastern span. It cost $6.4 billion. The new bridge replaces a span damaged during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and is years late and billions over budget. The governor says his administration is reviewing construction documents.
