If you fish this time of year...you need them....if your hungry for Louisiana seafood you
crave them! The brown shrimp season is wrapping up this month and the catches have
been pretty good....Today we are aboard the Tracie & Macy...a dual job boat run by
Capt Ricky Trahan out of Cocodrie....If you need live bait you can stop by his boat early
in the morning ...he usually pulls all night and has the best Croaker and shrimp live bait
in town...but...I was here for two things ...a bit of education and a hand full of Louisiana's
best barbecue-able treats! Brown shrimp spawn offshore so these beauties are on their
way out to sea..

The eggs are all in the shrimps head all the way down the back

Now seasons on shrimp are set by numbers of immature shrimp being caught....it only
takes about 4 weeks for a shrimp to mature to a harvestable size...so right now a ton of
small ones are being caught so the season is set to close..but dont worrry the white
shrimp will be coming in in August to spawn inshore ..and the feast will be on again...

A quick FYI if your down along our coast you can stop by some docks and buy fresh
seafood straight off the boat! Just go to louisianadirectseafood .com and check out the
locations! Doesn't get better than off the boat!
