BATON ROUGE - For most people, fly fishing brings visuals of the Midwest and rocky rivers, but Louisiana fishers have taken the sport to a new level.

They're catching large offshore species like lemon fish, as well as bass bream and crappie in our local lakes and ponds.

"We have oxbow lakes, Lake Concordia and, for a one-day trip...BREC ponds," Larry Offner of the Green Trout Fly Shop explains.

Beginning to fly fish isn't difficult. Guys like Larry can provide you the knowledge and give you simple tips to be successful.

"A lot of people think it's difficult because of the case, but...if I can do it, anyone can," Offner opines. "If you've never done it before, that's a good thing. Go to a place that has a class, go to a club, Red Stick Fly Fishers, New Orleans Fly Fishing. That's a good place to start."

Once bitten by the fly, you'll become addicted to the results. Top water poppers and offshore rigs can turn a normal fishing trip into something for the books.
