Update: Louisiana State Police say that the other suspect in a deadly hit and run accident has turned himself in this evening.

Jay C. Meliet, 38, of Denham Springs, was wanted in connection with a hit and run crash last week that killed Richard France on LA 1026 in Livingston Parish. Police say Meliet knew he was wanted due to all of the media coverage. He turned himself in to state troopers around 9:00 p.m.

Meliet's girlfriend, Amanda W. Cupit, 38, of Denham Springs, was arrested after Troop A received a tip from a viewer. Troopers were then able to locate a white Mercury Grand Marquis with damage to the right front fender and windshield. A search warrant was obtained after further investigation and analysis showed the car was involved in the crash that killed France.

State police learned that Cupit was the driver on the night of the accident. They also learned that Meliet attempted to cover the accident by washing the car.

Cupit and Meliet were booked into Livingston Parish Jail. Cupit was charged with felony hit and run driving and obstruction of justice. Meliet was charged with accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice.
