Oscar-winning film 'Green Book' filmed in New Orleans area
BATON ROUGE (AP) - Louisiana's economic development department is promoting its ties to the latest best picture winner at the Academy Awards.
The segregation-era road-trip drama "Green Book" was filmed in and around New Orleans with a Louisiana crew and some Louisiana cast members.
In addition to the top honor, the movie also received Academy Awards for best original screenplay and best supporting actor, Mahershala Ali.
Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson touted the wins Monday. He noted that "Green Book" joins other Oscar-winning movies produced in Louisiana since the state enacted its film tax credit program.
Others include "Ray," ''The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "12 Years a Slave."
The decision to award "Green Book" the best picture trophy has proved divisive, with some suggesting the movie trades on racial stereotypes.
