Orleans sheriff investigates apparent suicide of inmate
NEW ORLEANS - The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the apparent suicide of a 24-year-old inmate.
In a news release, sheriff's office spokesman Philip Stelly says Ryan Miller was found Monday night in a holding cell with a telephone cord around his neck.
Stelly says deputies immediately began CPR.
He says Miller was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Jail records indicate that Miller had been incarcerated since May 5, 2014 on charges of aggravated rape and sexual battery.
