GONZALES - When the Rose Parade rolls on News Years Day, millions will see the face of Gonzales resident Antonio Bennett.

Bennett is one of 60 honorees being recognized for their contribution as organ donors. He died at the age of 20, and gave his organs, eyes and tissues for others who needed them.

One of the people that received a kidney from Bennett met his family for the first time today to work on the float.

“Donations are so important because so many lives can be saved by just one person,” said Bennett’s mother, Melinda Johnson. “That's why it's so, so, so very important that so many lives can be saved by giving this one precious gift.”

The portraits of Bennett and others will be put on kites on the Donate Life float in the Rose Parade.
