One person killed in I-10 wreck
BATON ROUGE - State Police said a serious wreck closed I-10 in both directions near the parish line between East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes.
State Police tell News 2 one person died in a head-on collision at mile marker 169 between Highland Road and La. 73 at Prairieville.
According to troopers a pickup truck heading west was hauling a small utility trailer when it came loose. The trailer crossed the median just past where recently-erected cable barriers ended, and struck a truck in the eastbound lanes head-on, killing one person in the truck.
The interstate shut down in both directions after the wreck, but State Police re-opened one lane of I-10 West a short time ago.
Congestion has reached Essen Lane eastbound, and La. 73 at Prairieville westbound. Drivers are urged to avoid that area of the interstate while State Police work the wreck.
It's the second time in two days a wreck tied up interstate traffic around Baton Rouge. Yesterday a cement truck overturned at I-10 and Siegen, shutting down travel eastbound for several hours.
News 2 crews are headed to the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
