A crash involving a sugar cane truck and another vehicle in West Baton Rouge Parish left one person dead, and was one of three accidents involving a sugar cane truck today.
Louisiana State Police said 19-year-old Jonathan Austin was heading south on Highway 413 west of Port Allen around noon when his SUV crossed the center line and hit a sugar cane truck head-on.
Investigators said Austin was pronounced dead on the scene. State Police had reported earlier that a passenger in the SUV was injured, but later said that was a miscommunication and there were other passengers in the vehicle.
The driver of the sugar cane truck, 49-year-old Ernest Birks, had minor injuries.
There weren't any injuries in the other two accidents. Authorities said all three crashes happened within about a two-square mile area and within around an hour of one another.
