State Police identify woman killed in wreck with bus
NEW ROADS - State Police said a Ventress woman died after a head-on collision with a school bus this morning in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Investigators said heavy fog may have been a factor in the death of Jody T. Harris, 38.
Law enforcement were called to the scene on Hwy. 415 near Chenal Road just after 7 a.m. They said Harris' SUV cross the center line and hit the oncoming school bus head-on. Harris died in the wreck, despite wearing her seat belt.
Troopers said there were nine elementary school students on the bus, along with one adult aid and the bus driver. EMS took the driver and three students to local hospitals with minor injuries.
State Police said the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, and they submitted a sample of Harris' blood to the state crime lab for analysis.
