One killed, one charged in I-10 wreck
PORT ALLEN- A man from Mississippi will face charges once he is released from the hospital after a crash killed the passenger in his van Thursday evening.
Roberto-Carlos Rivas, 26, of Texas died. Devin Spence, 24, of Mississippi will be booked with negligent homicide, State Police said.
Investigators said Spence clipped the trailer of an 18-wheeler between Port Allen and the Basin Bridge, lost control, and flipped his vehicle. Rivas was ejected and killed.
The crash closed both lanes of I-10 for the end of the evening rush. At one point, traffic was backed up for three miles.
The interstate was cleared around 8 p.m.
