DENHAM SPRINGS- An investigation is underway in Denham Springs after an early morning house fire killed a man and sent three others to the hospital.

Fire ripped through a duplex in the 400 block of Bay Street near Summers Street around 3 a.m. Thursday.

Officials say a man on one side of the home died in the fire, two sisters lived on the other side.

According to State Fire Marshal Butch Browning, Denham Springs Officer Jared Kreamer was able to pull one of the ladies out of the home. She was unconscious, overcome by the smoke. The other sister, along with the officer, also suffered from smoke inhalation.

All three are being treated at a local hospital for their injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were not working smoke alarms in the duplex.
