BATON ROUGE – A Hessmer man was killed after a fire broke out at his home in Avoyelles Parish early this morning.

Investigators said 43-year-old Terry Lee Gonzales was pronounced dead after the fire destroyed his home on Highway 114 in Hessmer.

Firefighters with the Hessmer, Bunkie and Mansura Fire Departments were called out around 3:15 a.m. and found the home engulfed in flames.  Once the fire was out, firefighters found Gonzales’ body inside the home.

State Fire Marshals Butch Browning said investigators determined the cause of the fire was accidental, and further testing will be needed to finish the investigation.
