One dead after attempted murder, suicide overnight
DENHAM SPRINGS - A man is dead after sheriff's deputies said he shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself early this morning in Livingston Parish.
The Livingston Parish coroner's office said Charles Irby, 79, died after the shooting this morning on Cecil Drive in Denham Springs.
Lori Steele with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said 911 operators received a call around 12:50 a.m. from that address, and a woman told them her husband had just shot her. While she was speaking to the operator, Stele said the husband shot himself.
Steele said EMS took the woman to a hospital with injuries which were not life-threatening.
Detectives did not have a motive for the shooting.
