PRAIRIEVILLE - Sheriff's deputies arrested one person after an Easter cookout argument escalated into a deadly shooting in Prairieville tonight.

Marjor Kevin Hanna said deputies arrested Robert Earl Cosey Jr., 45, on suspicion of killing Sheddrick Diggs, 39.

Hanna said when deputies arrived at the scene in the Jamestown Subdivision they learned Cosey had fled the scene after the shooting. He said they found him driving on La. 42, and pursued him until he surrendered just inside the East Baton Rouge Parish line.

Investigators said Cosey and his wife were arguing during a Good Friday gathering, and Corsey left but came back later with a gun. Deputies said Diggs, who's related to Cosey's wife, tried to diffuse the situation and asked Cosey for the gun. Investigators said that's when Cosey shot him and fled.

Deputies booked Cosey into the parish jail on a charge of second-degree murder.
