One arrested in basketball game shooting
ST. JAMES - Sheriff's deputies released the name of the person arrested Tuesday night after a shooting outside a high school basketball game in St. James Parish.
Deputies arrested Kylin Elder, 18, of Convent after the shooting outside St. James High School. Sheriff Willy Martin, Jr. said Elder shot another teen multiple times, and the victim was in stable condition at a New Orleans hospital.
He said the shooting was related to an argument between Elder and the victim earlier that day.
"We've had periodically, a little rift between the two towns, the kids fighting, they don't know why they're fighting," Martin said, "we've had some meetings with some of the churches trying to get to the bottom of what's happening, see what we can do to resolve some of them and one of these individuals was involved in that in past."
Deputies charged Elder with attempted second-degree murder, possession of a firearm on school property, and illegal use of a dangerous weapon.
