One arrest after deadly shooting
GONZALES - Sheriff's deputies arrested an Ascension Parish man after they said he shot and killed another man this week.
Allison Hudson with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said arrested David Adams Jr., 26, of Prairieville after he shot and killed Jules Bennett Weil of St. Amant Thursday night.
Hudson said deputies were called to a residence on Cannon Road outside Gonzales after witnesses said they found Weil shot inside a truck registered to Adams. Weil was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies said witnesses told them Weil and Adams were visiting one of Weil's relatives at the residence. After they left together, witnesses said they heard gunfire and found Weil shot inside the truck, which was still in the driveway.
Investigators said Adams apparently fled the scene on foot, and was located a short time later not far from the scene of the shooting.
Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said the investigation is still ongoing, and they haven't identified a clear motive for the shooting.
Deputies charged Adams with second-degree murder and booked him into the parish prison.
