OMV locations to open Friday after fire
BATON ROUGE- The Office of Motor Vehicles is expected to be back up and running Friday, after it was shut down Thursday due to a fire at the state police data center.
State Police spokesman Capt. Doug Cain said the data center fire shut down all automated systems at the Department of Public Safety, which includes the motor vehicles offices.
Cain said the outage means troopers were unable process handgun permits and fingerprint background checks, for example.
The most obvious problem for the public was at OMV locations. Workers had to turn people away from offices.
The system was down for the entire day Thursday. The agency expects the system to be fully restored on Friday.
