Officials update condition of injured Metairie parade riders
METAIRIE - The Jefferson Parish sheriff's spokesman says two riders fell from different floats during a Mardi Gras parade in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie.
Col. John Fortunato says a 24-year-old Metairie man has improved to stable condition and a 23-year-old woman from Lacombe is expected to be treated and released.
The man was taken to University Hospital, which is in New Orleans and has a trauma center. Fortunato says the woman was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital.
He says they were 16 floats apart in the Krewe of Elks truck parade.
Truck parades are assemblages of floats built on flatbed trucks. The floats are generally created and decorated by the family or group sponsoring each float.
